Webpage workshop for middle school students
Middle school students can have the opportunity to make their own webpage at a program at the Plainville Public Library. The children's department of the library is sponsoring a three-week program entitled Complete Beginner's Introduction to Web Design. The class will be held on Wednesdays, July 16, 23 and 30, at 6:30 p.m. Professional web designers Drew Petrizzo and Steven Bouchard, owners of Be The Box Marketing and Design, will teach students the very basics of Web design. Students will learn how to create and modify a simple Web page template and have it published to the Internet.
At the first class, July 16, Petrizzo and Bouchard make a presentation to parents and children outlining the course. They will answer any questions and concerns that parents might have. If parents choose, they can sign a waiver to allow their children's work to be posted online, part of www.bethebox.com.
On July 23, students will have their first hands-on experience. They will be taught how to create the basic elements of a webpage: header, body, footer, images, and text.
During the final class on July 30, students will be taught how to modify the existing Web page that they created. They will learn how to insert new pictures and the text from a theme that they choose. The instructors will discuss the more advance elements of Web design, such as search engines. Attendees will be presented with the "Junior Be The Box Web designer" certificate.
Call the children's department at (860) 793-1450 for more information or to register for the three-week series.
