Involved in the VNACC recycled phone program are, from left, to right, VNACC Chief Financial Officer Barry Sheftel, Verizon Wireless Healthcare Business Sales Team member Maureen Luden and VNACC Chief Executive Officer Kim Andrews.

The Visiting Nurse Association of Central Connecticut donated about 125 no-longer-used cell phones to the Verizon Wireless HopeLine program. The phones will be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner and proceeds (working full service voice phones and cash grants) will be funneled back into the local community to support nonprofit agencies that work with victims of domestic violence. Nationally, Verizon Wireless collected more than 1 million phones last year, keeping them out of landfills and turning them into donations totaling $1.7 million in cash grants and 60 million minutes of service to help survivors of domestic violence.

VNACC, based in New Britain, providing quality home health care and general public health services for people in Avon, Berlin, Bristol, Cheshire, Cromwell, Farmington, Forestville, Kensington, Meriden, New Britain, Newington, Plainville, Rocky Hill, Southington, Terryville, Unionville, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Wolcott.
