Groups receive grants
The Main Street Community Foundation announced June 30 that more than $100,000 will be awarded in new grants following its 2008 spring competitive grant cycle including grants from the Plainville Community Fund's first distribution to charitable projects that benefit Plainville residents. The following is a partial list of grants approved by the Foundation's Board of Directors and awarded from various funds at the Foundation:
Best Buddies Connecticut - program at local high schools from the Schumann Special Interest Fund
Boy Scout Troop 67 in Plainville - new tents for the troop from the Plainville Community Fund
Cove Center for Grieving Children - support programs for families from Bristol and Southington from the Bristol Brass General Grant Fund
Crossroads Ranch, Inc. - new summer day camp for at-risk children - being organized by the Hall family of Plainville - from the Fuller & Myrtle Barnes Fund for Education
New Britain Museum of Art - Access to Arts program for students from Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott public schools from the Schumann Special Interest Fund
Operation Fuel - emergency energy assistance program in the Foundation's service area from the Bristol Brass General Grant Fund
Plainville Blue Dolphins Parents Association - scoreboard at the pool from the Plainville Community Fund
Plainville Coalition for Positive Youth Development - Community of Concern Project from the Plainville Community Fund
Plainville Community Food Pantry - food baskets during the holiday season from the Plainville Community Fund
St. Philip House - job training and dental needs of Plainville clients from the Plainville Community Fund
Southington Community Services - renovation of new space for Southington Community Services from the Bristol Brass General Grant Fund
Wheeler Clinic - support of a clinic wide electronic health record system from the Bristol Brass General Grant Fund
The Main Street Community Foundation is a nonprofit public charity, created by private citizens, serving donors in Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington and Wolcott who wish to build permanent charitable endowments to support their communities.
