The Middle School of Plainville, 150 Northwest Drive, will have an open house on Wednesday, Sept. 17. This will be a four-hour day for students at the middle school due to the open house. Dismissal will be at 12:45 p.m. and lunches will be served.

Middle school students can have the opportunity to make their own webpage at a program at the Plainville Public Library. The children's department of the library is sponsoring a three-week program entitled Complete Beginner's Introduction to Web Design. The class will be held on Wednesdays, July 16, 23 and 30, at 6:30 p.m.

Beth Larkins-Strathy, who is a teacher in the Pomperaug Region 15 school system serving Middlebury and Southbury, has been named assistant principal of the Middle School of Plainville. Larkins-Strathy will fill a vacancy left by former Middle School Assistant Principal Matthew Guarino, who was named middle school principal in October 2007.

The Plainville Association for Retarded Citizens and the Kids in the Middle recently joined forces to make Valentine's Day a little more festive in town.

State Rep. Elizabeth "Betty" Boukus announced today, Jan. 3, that the town of Plainville will receive a two-year $300,000 state Department of Education grant. The grant will provide $150,000 a year, for the next two years, to the Middle School of Plainville and Frank T. Wheeler Elementary School after school programs.
