The 2008 Plainville Choral Society Youth Theater’s production of “Starmites,” described by the directors as musical science fiction,” will be presented at the New Britain High School Auditorium tonight, Friday, Sept. 5 and Saturday, Sept. 6, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $8 per person. Tickets may be purchased from any cast member or at Saint’s Restaurant in Southington, the Plainville Senior Center, 200 East St., and a limited supply of tickets will be available at the door prior to each performance.

Officials met Aug. 27 at the Municipal Center with U.S. Rep. Christopher Murphy to update him on the town's plans to buy Robertson Airport using federal and state money, with the congressman pledging he will do what he can to get the proposal on the fast track for funds.

State police said that a truck driver, who admitted to falling asleep, flipped his tractor-trailer at about 3:45 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 84. The crash caused the closing of the eastbound lanes and traffic was rerouted off exit 34 to Crooked Street, then back onto the highway. Traffic was delayed at rush hour although a lane was reopened by 8 a.m.

Plainville High School will have a shortened day for students Tuesday, Sept. 9. Dismissal will be at 12:10. Lunches will not be served. This will provide the staff with time to work on the school's ongoing re-accreditation process.

As the winter home-heating season approaches, officials are worried that some Plainville residents won't be able to afford the cost of filling their basement oil tanks.
Right now, oil for home furnaces can cost 30 to 60 cents per gallon more than gasoline prices.

A Plainville woman got one of the biggest surprises of her 93 years when she stopped by the thrift shop where she has volunteered for several decades. The Plainville Thrift Shop, located at 130 W. Main St., had been closed for its usual two-week summer hiatus during which it was rejuvenated.

Niko Koutouvides' dream to earn a starting job in the National Football League is still on hold.
The Denver Broncos announced this week that Koutouvides, a Plainville High School alumnus, will begin the season as the backup to starting middle linebacker Nate Webster.
